ICAO TRAINING 🧭

ATC Listening Practice for Pilots

Welcome to ICAO Training ✈️

I created this section to practice and improve aviation English for ICAO communication. This space is designed for pilots and aviation students who want to improve phraseology, ATIS comprehension and ATC communication skills.

ICAO Alphabet 🔤

The aeronautical alphabet is essential for safe communication between pilots and air traffic controllers.

ICAO Numbers 🔢

Pilots and controllers use standard ICAO pronunciation to avoid misunderstandings.

Altitudes & Flight Levels ✈️

In aviation, it is important to understand the difference between altitudes and flight levels. Below the transition altitude, altitudes are expressed in feet. Above the transition altitude, aircraft use flight levels.

For example:

Headings, Frequencies & Squawk 🔊

Headings show aircraft direction and are spoken digit by digit. Frequencies are spoken using the word “decimal”. Squawk codes identify aircraft on radar.

ATC Units 📡

In aviation, it is important to know who you are communicating with: Tower, Ground, Approach or Center. Each ATC unit has a specific role in flight operations.

Cloud Information ☁️

Cloud information is very important in aviation and ATIS reports. Pilots receive information about cloud type and altitude.
